Description

About the workshop

We are really excited to welcome Elnaz Yazdani for her Experimental Goldwork Embroidery workshop. This accompanies our Strands of Place and Time exhibition, which features a collection of contemporary jewellery Elnaz has made in response to an 18th century panel of Persian goldwork embroidery in our collection.

The workshop will begin with a short tour of Strands of Place and Time with Elnaz to see her work on display in the exhibition. Then Elnaz will take you on a journey exploring the history and techniques used in the 18th century Persian goldwork she was inspired by while exploring the experimental potential that goldwork has to offer. Elnaz will guide you through a variety of beautiful goldwork stitches and show you how to use alternative and experimental materials to create your own unique piece of experimental goldwork art. You will work in a range of colours (not just gold) and explore their creative outcomes.

Experimental Goldwork is an embroidery process that will get you thinking outside the box and send you home feeling inspired to embroider with a range of new materials. It is easy to find the beauty and potential for embroidery using a wide range of alternative materials if you use your imagination.

Included in your ticket is your very own experimental goldwork kit, so you can carry on with your work beyond the workshop.

This is a beginners to intermediate workshop and all levels are welcome. Suitable for 16+ and adults.

The maximum number of participants for this workshop is 12.

This workshop is supported by Padiham Townscape Heritage with Heritage Lottery Funding.
