Expert Parent Programme - Navigating the Health system
Thu 30 March 2017, 10:00 – 14:30 BST
The Expert Parent Training Course
Central to the Expert Training Programme is the Expert Parent Training Course, a 4-hour training session delivered by experienced parent trainers that will develop parents’ knowledge and confidence when dealing with the health system.
The workshop is delivered by parent carers who can share this expertise and insight to parents who want to learn more about how to get the best out of the health system for their children.
The Expert Parent Programme is unique in that it maps out the current health system specifically to the needs of children and young people with disabilities.
By empowering parents to advocate on behalf of their children, the programme has allowed participants to have more effective and efficient interactions with health practitioners saving time and improving experience for both family and service.
Through a combination of face-to-face sessions, online modules and web based resources the programme enables parent carers to better understand the health system and provides them with practical tools on how to access it to ensure the best outcomes for their children and young people
'I definitely feel more confident, the workshop was very empowering and I’ve made
good use of the tools I took away.'
E-learning module: face-to-face training is supported by 3 e-learning modules that explains more about personal health budgets, how the NHS is structured, and how to constructively give feedback. http://councilfordisabledchildren.org.uk/learning/sections/parents/expert-parent-programme
