Learning to Live Well with PainAs September is recognised as national Pain Awareness Month, Pain Support Jersey charity is offering a presentation, led by Darren O’Sullivan MSc, PgC, BSc (Hons), RODP, Clinical Specialist Practitioner in Pain Management. This session will explain the neuroscience behind persistent pain, describe how pain cycles develop, and offer guidance on effective ways to live well despite pain, ultimately aiming to enhance quality of life.
Do you, or someone close to you, experience ongoing pain? Persistent pain, such as low back pain, head pain or widespread body pain, can linger for months and affect daily life, leaving many uncertain about the cause.
Pain that continues for more than three months can disrupt work, home routines, and relationships with family, friends, and colleagues. The ongoing nature of this pain often leads to a significant reduction in overall quality of life.
Prevalence and ComplexityPersistent pain affects over 20% of adults across the globe. The mechanisms by which the body produces pain are complex, and sometimes, the strategies people use to cope with pain may unintentionally worsen their symptoms.
