Many commentators have noticed the recent ‘return of the soul’ in religious, psychological and social-scientific discourse.
Tim will explore this phenomenon with reference to psychology, spirituality and art.
His project is a consideration of soul in the everyday lives of Londoners, with brief video interviews uploaded regularly over the next eighteen months, and versions of the work will be exhibited in various London venues starting in September 2016.
‘About Soul’ represents the fourth element in a body of work begun in 1993, that examines what he sees as the four fundamental elements of what it is to be human - mind, body, heart and soul.
With regard to this he has previously documented the lives of the severely mentally ill, of people with cancer, and of those going through the heart transplantation process.
Tim Wainwright has shown his work internationally in museums, galleries, and public and private spaces. It has included large-scale visual and sonic installations, photographic documentary projects, abstracts, and storytelling.
He has used photography, film and sound to investigate the nature of transformation whilst exploring witness and voyeurism.
