When we programme children's shows at The Place we try whenever possible to offer relaxed performances specifically to enable children with anxiety, ASD or other complex needs to have a safe, calm and happy theatre experience with their families. Relaxed performances are well lit instead of in the dark, and audiences can move around or leave at any time, make noise, and interact with parents/carers and the performers: it's okay to watch relaxed shows in any way you need to!

We recognise that for some children a familiarisation visit to a venue in advance of seeing a show can be helpful, so we thought we'd offer families the chance to have a tour of our little theatre and to stay to enjoy a winter-themed sensory music and play session together too!

This session is FREE but tickets must be booked in advance, and are open to children and young people of all ages and abilities. There is absolutely no obligation to buy tickets to any of our shows afterwards: you may wish to come along just to be curious and to have some fun on a Saturday morning!

A social story about visiting the theatre will be available for you to take away on the day, and the event will be run by experts in early years children and special educational needs; the facilitators will be very happy to help you and your family explore ways to enjoy theatre together tailored to your needs.
