About this event

Take your photography to the next level with smartphone photography workshops drawing on my wide experience capturing and documenting urban landscape scenes in Nottingham as a professional photographer. After the event you'll be able to get three of your favourite photographs printed (~A5 , 9" x 6" size) as a keepsake , included in the price.

Focussing on the many hidden alleys and varied architecture in the Lace Market I'll lead a guided photowalk. This will be around 90 minutes in length ., offering photography tips and advice and demonstrating various techniques which I use in my street and architectural photography , including compositions , use of light and shadow and finding patterns in common street scenes.

Our walk will return back to the Nottingham Central Library and then I’ll be leading a demonstration of mobile smartphone photography lasting approximately 1 hour editing using apps including Snapseed back at the Library , offering tips , showcasing some of the techniques and ideas for this.

My aim is that I'll be leaving you with fresh ideas , tips and inspiration - as well as showcasing the potential for mobile photography , and printed images to showcase your new skills.

Finally here's a couple of comments from previous participants of workshops I've delivered as part of my client work :

“I’ve always had an interest in photography so it was such an honour getting to take part in the workshop and having Lamar was such a bonus because he took his time to explain things and the importance of using different angles/ lenses . I also enjoyed the editing bit and it was much more fun getting to play around with the different possibilities of what the pictures i had taken could be " -

"This workshop gave me a chance to see Nottingham in a different way. Before this day, I just walked past any monument, and I didn't have enough time to appreciate their beauty "

Frequently asked questions

What's my background as a photographer and how will this influence the workshop?

I'm a professional photographer based in Nottingham - primarily my work is around photographing and documenting arts and cultural events but my personal work is around cityscapes and urban scenes. I'm self taught and enjoy sharing my ideas and techniques with others - see more info on my website.

Is there an age limit?

Those aged under 18 will need to be accompanied by a parent/guardian on their ticket , but other than that this is suitable for those aged 13 and up.

Will refreshments be included?

As this is an initial pilot refreshments aren't included - but I am considering this for future workshops. Nottingham's Central Library has a Cafe featuring has plenty of hot drinks , cakes and some sandwiches and within the City Centre there are many options for snacks/drinks.

What's the refund policy?

If I need to reschedule or cancel the workshop due to weather or illness , I'll endeavour to give a minimum 24 hours' notice and offer option of future dates or a refund. Regrettably I'm unable to give refunds if a participant needs to cancel.

How do I get to Nottingham's Central Library?

Nottingham's Central Library is located to the south of the city centre - it is accessible via many bus routes using NCT's City Loop services. The central library also has a paid car park nearby accessible via Canal Street.

What equipment do I need to bring?

I'll be focussing on smartphone photography so any recent smartphone with a built in camera will be enough - no need for dedicated mirrorless/SLR cameras. This workshop will have an outdoor component to it , so please being appropriate footwear and clothing.

How will I be able to get my photo prints after the event?

After the event I'll invite participants to send up to three of their favourite images to me via Wetransfer or Google Drive. I'll then ask for address info and send the prints off to my supplier who will send them directly in the post to participants . These should arrive within 10 days.
