This course is for you if you are a practicing Garden Designer, Landscape Architect, landscape professional or experienced Horticulturist and wish to enhance your overall knowledge of design and sustainable practice.
It will be delivered on Tuesdays during our Spring and Summer Terms with 6 months to complete the optional assessment. Additional reading around the course is encouraged but overall the work is pitched at a level that is attainable for anyone wishing to continue working whilst on the course. In keeping with the subject this course is delivered entirely online with the advantage of fitting this into your daily routine. If you miss a day you will be able to catch up and review lectures through recordings of the real-time, live classroom days.
The additional assessed report may be submitted at any time within 6 months of completing the course and, on passing, will gain you a Certificate in Sustainable Design from LCGD.
KEY FEATURES OF THE COURSE
The course includes the following elements:
• Theoretical days covering the professional role of ecology in our work, what sustainability encompasses as well as climate change, resilience, biodiversity and anthropocentric approaches to landscape design
• Specialist skills developed around understanding the role of carbon, pollution, plants and water management and using these to underpin design rationale.
• An understanding and re-evaluation of process; be this planting design, tree planning, maintenance considerations un the context of environmental and social sustainability.
• Inspirational lectures based on real-life landscapes that you might visit in your own time. All our tutors are practicing professionals with the most up to date knowledge and plenty of experience.
• Exploration of the measurement of benefits and success and how this might feed both into planning process as well as help you to audit your own work.
• The opportunity to review your own work through a submitted and assessed piece of work.
CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
On completion of the course and successful completion of the final report you will be awarded the LCGD Certificate in Sustainable Design. Study hours contribute to your Continuing Professional Development with most professional membership organisations such as the Society of Garden Designers, the Chartered Landscape Institute and the Chartered Institute of Horticulture.
