An interactive experience exploring the early history of Tetley's Brewery, with stories and artefacts from the archives.
About this event
Get hands-on with old Tetley Brewery artefacts and hear stories from Victorian-era local newspaper articles about the brewery, all whilst enjoying a flight of Tetley’s beer or a pint of cask ale you will be able to pull yourself.
As part of The Tetley's Heritage Weekend on Saturday 30th April 2022 - Sunday 1st May 2022, we are bringing items out of the Tetley Brewery archive.
This interactive experience will be hosted by Leeds Beer Tours founder, Mike Hampshire. Mike has raided the archives for items you can get your hands on, all dating back to the late 1800s and early 1900s. Artefacts include an old hydrometer, mash paddles and printing blocks. There will be lots to see!
Mike will also share stories from local newspapers at the time. Including why Tetley Brewery were forced to publish a letter to declare they did not use arsenic in their beer, and the time the local council blamed Tetley employees' free beer allowance as to why so many of them were falling ill.
Sessions run throughout each day and will take place in The Tetley's iconic heritage Board Room, surrounded by portraits of old Tetley Brewery board members.
£10 per person, plus Eventbrite booking fees. Each session will last approximately 45 minutes.
Optional extras:
- Upgrading your ticket to include a beer flight of three Tetley's beers (Pre-order or pay on the day) - £5
- Pouring your own pint of Tetley's cask ale (pay on the day only) - £TBC
