EXPLORE - with Bacon Butties

Why are we running this course?

Whether they go to church or not, many people have questions about the Christian faith, but rarely get the opportunity to explore them...

• What is God like?
• Hasn't science disproved God?
• Why is there so much suffering in the world?
• What's the point of Christianity?
• Is it even relevant in the world today?

Whatever your questions, you are welcome to join us for Bacon Butties and an informal discussion

What's the format of Explore?

1. Each week, we will meet at 9.30 am for Bacon Butties (or croissants)
2. Then we'll watch some short videos on each topic and discuss them together.

What sort of topics will be covered?

Week 1 - Is there a God, and if so, what is he/she like?

• Is there a God?
• Aren’t all gods the same?
• Why bother with faith?
• Can you trust the Bible?
• What is God like?

Week 2 - Who is Jesus?

• Is Jesus just a myth?
• Was he just a great teacher or a prophet?
• Did he really rise from the dead?
• What was Jesus’ impact on history?
• Do people still experience the presence of God today?

Week 3 - If Jesus is God, why did he let people kill him?

• How does the death of Jesus fit in the story of the Bible?
• Why doesn’t God just fill us with his love anyway?
• How does God help us to trust him?
• Why is there still so much pain and suffering in the world?
• If God always forgives us, then why bother being good?

Week 4 - Who is the Holy Spirit and what does he/she do?

• Where does the Holy Spirit fit in?
• What can we learn about the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament?
• What can we learn about the Holy Spirit in the New Testament?
• What does the Holy Spirit do?
• How can we be filled with the Spirit?

Week 5 - What’s church got to do with it?

• What is the purpose of the church?
• What difference has the church made in the world?
• Why worship God?
• What is fellowship?
• What does it mean to be a disciple?

What sort of commitment is required?

As much as you decide yourself! This is a relaxed, `no pressure’ course. It works best if you can make all the sessions, but we recognise that life happens and that may not be possible. You can stop at any stage of the course if you find that it does not meet your needs or expectations.

We acknowledge that other commitments you have may sometimes take priority over EXPLORE. However, the more you can attend, the more you will get out of the course.
