Exploring Creative Expression for Wellbeing, Healing and Spiritual Developm...
Sun 9 July 2017, 10:00 – 17:00 BST
This exciting workshop is open to anyone who wishes to explore the connection between creativity and spiritual development; you do not need any artistic flair or experience. Working with the dynamic energies inherent in creative activity we can benefit from the energetic shifts that spontaneously occur as a result. The workshop is experiential and hands on. The aim is to provide a creative space where you can experiment using a wide variety of materials and techniques taught on the day to unlock your individual creative expression. The journey is twofold, firstly the creative process itself and how we can overcome resistance that inhibits the flow of creative energy. Secondly, we then work with the images and artwork produced using more creative techniques to open ourselves to their energy, messages, guidance and healing potential. For those that attended the previous workshop it will provide an opportunity to work three dimensionally, explore new materials and techniques and deepen the connection to the images and artworks produced.
If you think you are not remotely creative but are still intrigued this may be a transformative workshop for you.
On the day we will use colour meditation to help us to open and connect with our creative centre in a safe way. Colour and texture are the principle carriers of emotion and feeling in art expression.
We will start by simply exploring the large variety of materials available. This is to understand that materials influence us in ways that correspond to their physical qualities, each evoking a distinctly different psychic state. The expansion of our sensitivity and awareness of the material world also enhances our Psychic development.
As the unconscious speaks in images and symbols you will have the opportunity to create spontaneous images after we have looked at ways to break down resistance to creative expression. Rather than being daunted by a blank sheet of paper, it can be approached as an open realm that invites expression.
We will also look at the relationship between rhythm and movement and creative expression using our breath, sound and music to connect to our own unique rhythm. This allows us to relax and move with freedom. Painting in many ways may have more to do with the quality of movement than visualisation.
We will look at creative and imaginative ways of responding to our artistic expressions such as Aesthetic Contemplation, then Personifying the Image. This is an imaginal process that involves a subtle shift of consciousness and opens the way to Dialoguing with the Image which might simply awaken a dormant animism in the Soul. These responses will develop a much closer relationship to our images and open us to the messages and healing energies that they contain from our higher selves, Guides and Angelic beings.
Finally we look at the power of ritual to both amplify the inherent healing quality of the image and also as a tool to let go and separate from our images at the end of the day.
“Artistic expressions are like offspring, and like children they are related to, but separate from their makers.” Ref: McNiff, S. 2004. Art Heals: How Creativity Cures the Soul. Shambhala Pub Inc
