Event description

Description

We all want to live as equals and to be part of a healthy, diverse society, where people live up to their potential. In our organisations, we want to feel confident that all local people are getting the access they need to the support they need, and that everyone has a fair chance of making the most of the opportunities our work creates. We might also be working alongside individuals or groups to make sure they can access the services they have a right to.

Equality and Diversity policies are a requirement but equality and thinking about equity should run through our own and organisational understanding, activities, planning and strategies, if we are really to make a difference. With good understanding of people’s diverse characteristics, and of the potential to take positive action defined in equality law. there is a lot we can do. There are also issues and risks we need to know about, to reduce the risk that we might disadvantage certain groups of people (or ‘populations’) without even realising we have.

This is a busy, interactive, half day for people working in small to medium organisations. It is built to combine a range of information and new knowledge with opportunities to share experiences, concerns and your ideas for good practice.

By the end of this course you will:

  • have deepened your knowledge of equality and diversity
  • increased your knowledge of the Equality Act 2010 and responsibilities under it
  • better understand the protected characteristics of equality
  • be more alert to discrimination and how to prevent it
  • have reviewed your use of good quality equality and diversity practice and why it is necessary.
