We are really proud of our open spaces and we want to make the best possible use of them.

We know our community is brimming with ideas for community businesses based in our open spaces. Ideas put forward to us over the years include:

• Growing spaces
• Walking routes
• Creative and cultural events
• Community markets
• Sports and fitness activities

But we also know that it is difficult to know where to start when setting up a new community business on a bit of open space. So, we asked Shared Assets and Waymarking (experts in all things land, community-led planning, regeneration and economic development) to help us turn your ideas into reality.

On the 28th of April between 5pm and 7pm, Shared Assets and Waymarking will be hosting an online workshop with us at Wigan and Leigh Community Charity for anybody with an idea for a community business using some of our local open spaces.

The aim of this session is to understand what you, our community, want to deliver. Once the team understand your idea, they will scour the UK looking for an example of where somebody has achieved something similar and arrange for you to go and visit them to see how they did it.

This is a fantastic opportunity to learn from likeminded community businesses around the UK and use that knowledge to make the best use of the open spaces around Abram Ward.
