About this event
Training Overview:
This interactive session will begin with a presentation, followed by a Q&A to encourage reflection and open discussion.
The training draws on the most current and affirming understanding of the PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance) profile, combining academic research with lived experience and insights from the Autistic and PDA communities. It offers a rich, nuanced view designed to deepen awareness, challenge outdated narratives, and support more effective, compassionate approaches.
Why It Matters:
At Nudge Education, we are dedicated to creating environments where every young person feels understood, supported, and empowered. Understanding the PDA profile is key to this mission. By deepening our knowledge, reflecting on lived experiences, and learning compassionate, evidence-informed approaches, we strengthen our ability to connect with and support PDA young people. The more insight and practical understanding we gain, the greater our impact - helping us foster autonomy, safety, and meaningful engagement for the young lives we serve.
Learning Objectives:
- Gain a deeper understand of PDA experience;
- Consider how to foster connection, autonomy and safety for PDA young people.
- Receive practical guidance on how we can support PDA at Nudge.
About the Facilitator:
GROVE is a fully Autistic-staffed online community - an authentic space where Autistic young people belong, connect and are genuinely accepted. Founded by Jess, an Autistic ADHD mother and former teacher, GROVE grew from lived experience and a commitment to offering something radically different from systems that too often suppress and shame. Through personalised one-to-one mentoring, peer groups centred on shared interests and BEING ME - a programme supporting self-understanding, identity and community - young people find authentic connection, a sense of belonging and the freedom to be themselves. Guided by a team of Autistic Young Leaders, GROVE is trusted by families and praised for its compassionate ethos. It offers a lifeline to those seeking a space where young people are truly supported, heard and valued - just as they are.
