Event description

Description

Pedagogy of the Oppressed by Paulo Freire was first published 50 years ago. This seminal text has underpinned many theories of education and community work with its central assertion that "All education is political"

Theatre of the Oppressed is a method of using theatre developed by Brazilian theatre director Augusto Boal, building on the ideas of Freire.

This workshop will be led by Gavin Crichton, Artistic Director of Edinburgh based Theatre Company Active Inquiry. It will use some of the Techniques of T.O. to explore the central concepts in P.O. What do concepts like alienation, dehumanization, co-intentional learning and Fear of Freedom look like? How can we understand them better in order that they may be of use to us in Scotland in the 21st Century?

This workshop is a partnership between Active inquiry and Camina Scotland

No previous experience is needed to attend this workshop

Theatre of the Oppressed Laboratory (TOTOL) is a monthly workshop in Edinburgh exploring the Theatre of the oppressed and its relevance in Scotland today.

Cost is by donation with the suggested donation of £5
