Event description
Visit the ancient city of Petra, Jordan with Vivianne Rowan - member of Southport u3a and globe-trotting adventurer!

About this Event

Once you’ve been to Petra, it stays with you...

Long after you’ve left you will find grit from Petra’s red sandstone in the tread of your shoes; your fingernails will have a faint rosy tinge; fine pinkish dust will cling to your clothing.

For some time you will close your eyes and still be able to relive the startling moment you first saw this ancient stone city rising out of the desert floor. You will savour the memory of this place, its grandeur and strangeness, even after you manage to wash away the traces of its red rocks.

Whilst travelling remains restricted, Vivianne Rowan of Southport u3a invites u3a members to join her on an exploration of this modern world wonder, without leaving the comfort of their own home.

About Vivianne

Vivianne studied at Manchester and Liverpool University as well as open learning at Oxford University and Penn University in America where she obtained diplomas in Ancient History of Civilizations.

Vivianne has worked in the Petrie Museum at the UCLA in London and at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo on a special project working alongside world-renowned archaeologist Dr Zawi Hawass.

When at home, she runs an Egyptology group for her u3a and gives regular talks to various associations and schools. She is a member of ARCE and The Horus Society.

For the last ten years, she has worked on cruise ships all around the world, presenting talks on the history of the ship’s itinerary.

This event is for u3a members only
