Exploring Tea
Event Information
About this Event
Petersham Nurseries and Canton Tea go back many years together, to when Canton's Founder, Jennifer Wood, first delivered artisan Chinese tea to the Teahouse by bike.
Now Canton is established as one of the UK's premium tea companies. During this event Jennifer will take you through a lively insight into the tea world. Starting with the Chinese who cultivated tea over 4000 years ago, we will discuss early tea-drinking among the British aristocracy, the subsequent decline in tea quality and why now, there is renewed interest in handmade, whole leaf tea.
During this informative 90 minute class which is set within a private glasshouse, you will taste the different tea categories: white, green, oolong and black and learn about the myths and provenance stories around each one. We will also include a rare or wild tea that is not on the Petersham menu and a cold infusion (it may be sparkling or over ice) to complete your experience.
Of course the quintessential experience of drinking tea in an English garden setting would not be complete without it being accompanied by cake - which will be provided by the Teahouse.
