About this event

Community • City & Town

Join artist Paloma and air quality practitioner Gia on a guided walk to explore and investigate the air we live and breathe in.

Throughout the walk, with the help of hand-held monitors and guided observation, participants will be encouraged to sense, describe, draw and recognise connections between the elements encountered and the stimuli of the surrounding environment.

This experience aims to foster a deeper understanding of air conditions in urbanized spaces, including how we perceive air, how it affects people and nature, and how our actions might influence it.

Important information:

  • The walk is suitable for all ages (children under 14 should be accompanied by an adult).
  • It requires the ability to walk about one mile (1.5 km) over the duration of the event.
  • Each participant needs to register for the walk, providing their name and an email address (use the email of accompanying adults for children)
  • Please see the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) below for further information

Frequently asked questions

What should I do if I have accessibility requirements?

Please contact the organiser with any requests or questions so that we can understand your requirements and discuss if any and what support is needed.

Do I need to have prior knowledge and/or experience of art or air pollution?

No, the walk is designed to be enjoyed by everyone. We hope that participants will be happy to share their ideas and observations with the group, but it is not essential.

Will the walk go ahead if it is raining?

If heavy rain is forecast or it is raining heavily at the scheduled start time, then the walk will be postponed and participants notified. We will hope to continue with the walk under other weather conditions, including light rain (please see the question about what to wear).

Is there a dress code?

We suggest that you wear comfortable clothes, including shoes that are suitable for walking. It's advisable to wear (or bring) a coat if rain is forecast.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

We will provide all of the materials you need for the practical side of the walk. You may wish to bring water and a snack if you think you need one. Please see the above questions about what to wear and the weather.

I can't make this walk or there are no tickets left, what can I do?

We are also running a repeat of the walk tomorrow (Tuesday 23rd) at 1.30 pm

Where will the walk start?

We will meet on Richmond Little Green opposite Richmond Theatre.

Can I bring a friend along with me?

Friends can also register for the walk. We will have a limited number of places and need to know attendee numbers so that we can provide materials for everyone.
