Event description

Description

As providers of residential care, you will be aware that many care home residents will be protected by consumer laws, just as any other person buying services, and the care sector must ensure it complies with these laws. The CMA has said it is already taking enforcement action, using their consumer protection powers, against a number of providers where the CMA consider homes have been unfairly charging large upfront fees and charging fees for extended periods after a resident has died.

"We want to support providers of residential and nursing care in Hampshire to operate within consumer protection legislation."

This event is facilitated by Hampshire Trading Standards with special guest speaker Mike Lambourne from the Competitions Market Authority.

The event will focus on the consumer rights of residents in care homes and people who are about to purchase residential care so as to support providers to operate within the legislation. The event will explore consumer protection legislation around:

  • Upfront Payments / Deposits

  • Costs that residents could consider to be hidden or unexplained at the time of purchasing

  • Fees post death

  • Terms and conditions of contracts

  • Complaints procedures

Tea and coffee will be available on arrival. There is limited free parking on site.
