About this event
The three-act structure is the cornerstone for how we tell stories. It's formed the basis for creative narratives for all of human history. This course is a practical guide to the structure and how to use it in your writing.
Join author Jamie Mollart for a 2-hour session as he takes you through the history of the structure, how it has been used in some famous examples, and its key components.
Jamie will explain the elements that make up each act, the percentage word count of each element and what needs to happen where. We'll also touch on character arcs and how they can play into the 3 act structure.
Whether you're a plotter or a pantser the 3 act structure is ubiquitous in human narrative form - so whether you intend to use it overtly or just by an understanding of it to allow it to form part of your writing subconsciously, this workshop is for you!
By the end of the course, you will...
- Have a clear understanding of what is meant by the three-act structure
- Understand the component parts of each act and the weighting applied to each of these component parts
- Explore how you could apply this in your writing going forward.
About Jamie Mollart
Jamie is a novelist and member of NWS. He is a long-running guest on the influential Litopia podcast and Patrick Neate called him 'quite a writer' on the Book Slam podcast.
He's a member of the newly launched Climate Fiction Writers League, a group of authors raising awareness about climate change, The Society of Authors, and a mentor for Writing East Midlands.
His debut novel, The Zoo, was on the Amazon Rising Stars list.
His second novel, Kings of a Dead World was published this year, has received great reviews and is an Amazon best seller.
