An exciting opportunity to explore Training & Development design and delivery through the lens of Neuroscience. By considering the way our brains work, we can ensure that the work we do offers greater value and impact to the business and individuals.
Neuroscience offers exciting insights into the activity within our own heads, some of which confirms long held ideas and understanding of how the brain works, and some which challenges us to think about new ways of working.
Deni will enable us reflect upon our training sessions through the lens of three neurobiological aspects that have impacted on her as a trainer. For each aspect, there is time for you to reflect upon your own training sessions, discussing with colleagues what you could do differently in both your training design and delivery. After a brief orientation, we will discuss how threat and gratitude affect people’s ability to learn, how we are anticipation machines and view the future through the past, and how, as trainers, we should focus more on learning to interrupt forgetting, rather than learning on its own.
Please bring along the lesson plan, copy of slides and the workbook of a training workshop you would like to discuss. We will be working in trios so there will be lots to share even if you are unable to bring material of your own.
Deni is an experienced trainer, coach and facilitator. She designs and delivers sessions from 60min spotlights to five day development programmes for a variety of clients globally. Initially graduating as an engineer, her background is in a variety of operational management roles for Mars Drinks concluding as the Operations L&D Manager. She is passionate that development makes a real difference back in the workplace and has won an in-company award for her training programme which made a tangible difference to projects being handed over.
Deni is pragmatic and thought provoking as well as being a keen learner herself. In 2015 she attended the Association for Coaching’s Neuroscience for Coaches workshop and has since embarked on a Doctorate in Professional Studies. Deni is curious to understand how coachees help and hinder themselves through who they are whilst they are attempting to change. She is hoping that neuroscientific insights will help our understanding of that mechanism in a scientific, rather than descriptive, way. For her it is important that learning translates into differences in her work and she has, therefore, taken various aspects of neuroscience and applied it to her training, facilitation and coaching.
