A newly published scoping study by His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Probation sheds light on how youth justice and probation services support young people through critical transitions.

Conducted by colleagues from the School of Social Work at the University of East Anglia in partnership with Research in Practice, the study explores how services work together to safeguard and support young people aged from their mid-teens to mid-twenties. The research focuses on how the six key principles of Transitional Safeguarding are embedded in practice and service design, and how these principles shape the journey between youth justice and adult probation systems.

This free seminar will present the key findings of the study, including the challenges of implementing a Transitional Safeguarding approach in frontline practice. It will also explore why both leaders and practitioners increasingly recognise the need for more responsive and developmentally appropriate transitional arrangements.

Attendees will also be introduced to three newly developed briefings—tailored for practitioners, senior managers, and policymakers—which offer practical insights and opportunities to apply the study’s findings in real-world settings.
