Sign up for our Export bootcamp to learn the essentials of international trade. This fast-paced programme will give you the insights and inspiration needed to produce an international plan to drive your company’s growth in 2018 and beyond.

Over three days, we’ll put you and your business through your paces to ensure you’re well-prepared to exploit new market opportunities. It’ll also help you compete on the international stage.

This bootcamp is specifically designed for companies with a service.

Bootcamp dates

You’ll need to attend all workshop dates to complete the bootcamp.

It’s a 9.15am for 9.30am start, finishing at 4pm on each workshop. The bootcamp workshops will run on the following dates:

  • Thursday 25 January 2018
  • Thursday 8 February 2018
  • Thursday 22 February 2018

You will need to sign up by 18 January 2018 to secure your place.

Scottish Enterprise’s Export bootcamp is fully-funded for Scottish companies and is part-funded through the European Structural and Investment Funds − investing in a smart, sustainable and inclusive future. You should note that this support is a form of state aid, on attendance it will count towards your overall De Minimis allowance.

Export bootcamp schedule

Day One: Thursday 25 January 2018

Session one - Market analysis:

  • Why develop your international business?
  • Importance of export planning
  • Challenges in providing services internationally
  • Selecting target markets

Session two - Market entry:

  • Routes to market and different options available
  • Agency, distribution and partnership agreements
  • Everything you need to know about managing your intellectual property (IP) when trading overseas − from non-disclosure agreements to patents, trademarks and copyright
  • International marketing and sales
  • Visiting the market

Day two: Thursday 8 February 2018

Session one: International finance, contracts and contractual issues:

  • Checklist for new service providers overseas
  • Budgeting and costing
  • International pricing
  • Regulations and taxes (and VAT)
  • Currency and getting paid
  • Contracts and international terms and conditions

Session two: How to develop your international action plan

There will be an opportunity for one-to-one consultations with advisors. All attendees will be helped to prepare an online export action plan to help you achieve your objectives. It will also help you to understand how this fits into your overall strategy for exporting.

Day Three: Thursday 22 February 2018

Session one: My international journey

Be inspired by Scotland’s international trade prowess. You’ll hear from a company who’s already been through the experience. They will share their tips and insights on the following areas for trading overseas to grow their business:

  • Getting an overview of the company and its strategy for growth
  • How they selected the right markets to enter
  • How their international business model has evolved as the company has grown in these markets
  • Outline of its market entry strategy and its approach to different markets
  • How it dealt with the practical aspects of international business, including international payments
  • Tips/recommendations for others looking at expanding into new overseas markets.

Session 2: International mentoring session

Experts will include: Export advisors, SE Intellectual asset specialists, SE Wider innovations specialists and International market researchers.
