Once your place is confirmed you will be sent a link to secure your space on this learning journey which will total £1000 per person (two places maximum per company available). This includes an organised programme of visits, accommodation, networking dinner on Thursday 23rd May, transfer between hotel and site visits and VIP entry to the IoT Solutions World Congress.


Scottish Enterprise, in partnership with ACCIO, is leading a delegation of Scottish companies in the manufacturing sector to Catalonia during the IoT Solutions World Congress (IOTWC).


This planned programme will provide a unique opportunity and first-hand insight into how globally recognised manufacturers in Catalonia are taking advantage of new opportunities and leading the way. Showcasing how businesses are benefiting from adopting manufacturing excellence and digital technologies to increase productivity and boost their competitiveness.


With a strong manufacturing industry, Catalonia is the sixth European region in terms of the number of professionals employed in manufacturing activities. The region is home to 629,876 companies, including 35,339 industrial companies, representing 18.1% of the total in Spain.


It's home to a strong cluster of globally recognised manufacturing companies in sectors such as chemicals and plastics, food and beverage, motor vehicles, and life sciences, accounting for 24.6% of the economy – sitting in the top quartile productivity measures.


With its reputation as a highly productive and innovative region, Catalonia laying the foundations to become a world-leading Industry 4.0 eco-system with the sector being a strong asset for the Catalan economy and an important driver of employment and prosperity for the region.


What does the programme involve?


The learning journey programme has been designed to provide in-depth insights through structured ‘Go Look See’ site visits to manufacturers that have developed their own unique manufacturing excellence journeys.


This programme will show attendees how to develop a deeper understanding of what is possible through enabling technologies such as additive, AR, AI, Digital Connectivity, predictive capability, Robotics and Automation in Manufacturing. As well as this, it will focus on how continuous improvements through developing digital skills, strong leadership and capital investment can have a positive impact on business competitiveness and bottom line. Site tours and facilitated discussions will allow the following key areas to be explored:


  • Scaling up and growing complex operations
  • Transitioning from an analogue to digital culture
  • Connecting manufacturing processes, machines, systems and people
  • Using data to provide insight, prediction and develop autonomous decision-making
  • Developing digital value for our customers
  • Live demos of technology being used to augment the workplace
