Are you a teacher or other education professional who lives or works in Salford?

Are you interested in learning more about different creative practices to take into the classroom?

Salford CEP (Cultural Education Partnership) is piloting a new CPD offer aimed at providing teachers and those working in education with tools, skills and knowledge in a variety of creative practices and art forms, that they can take back to the classroom.

This offer will encompass sessions on art, movement, music, design, drama and lots more, and will be geared towards a variety of key stages. Held at locations around Salford, these will mostly take place on weekday evenings throughout the academic year.

What: The Ocean at the End of the Lane workshop

Where: Online

When: Wednesday 14th December, 16:30 - 18:30 For: Specifically aimed at secondary school teachers

Led by the National Theatre's resident director, this session will delve into the award-winning production based on the novel by Neil Gaiman, which is playing at The Lowry fresh from the West End. Attendees will also be entitled to two tickets to see the performance that night.

What: DIY Theatre: multi-sensory theatre approaches

Where: James Dunn classroom, The Lowry

When: Wednesday 18th January, 16:30 - 18:30

For: Specifically aimed at teachers of Special Schools – KS 1 -4, Mainstream KS 1 & 2, Alternative Provision KS2 – KS4

A practical, hands-on workshop co-led by leaders with lived experience of learning disability. School staff will be introduced to a range of the creative multi-sensory theatre approaches DIY uses in its cultural education work. School staff will have an opportunity to create their own multi-sensory environments and explore how they could use these approaches in their own school settings.

DIY Theatre Company is a company of performers with learning disabilities based in Salford. We have been creating accessible and thought-provoking theatre and educational projects since 1994.

What: Move MCR - Makaton in Movement

Where: The Lowry

When: Tuesday 24th January, 16:30 - 19:30

For: Specifically aimed at KS1-2 teachers, and teachers of SEN

Through this lesson teachers will learn how to use Makaton effectively in their classes. The outcome of this lesson will be to understand the importance of using Makaton in a classroom setting, being able to adapt and teach students Makaton themselves and how to make learning Makaton fun! We will pass on our creative skills in how to lead Makaton into a movement and creative session, building conversational, collaborative and accessible skills.

Move MCR - As creative and movement professionals we have a wealth of knowledge, experience and approaches which we can deliver in a workshop style to teachers. One of our ethos' at Move Manchester is that young people are encouraged to access their creative skills through the curriculum and to learn through collaborative engagement. It is vital to us that the children of today feel they are in an accessible and inclusive environment where they can reach their true potential and feel represented in their daily learning.

What: Hot Bed Press: Screenprinting Level One

Details: Learn to screenprint in quick easy steps. From mixing your water-based inks and printing using simple paper stencils you will go on to layer and build up colours. On day 2 Mandy will show you how to coat and expose a photographic image onto screen and then to register and print your final key colour bringing the image together. You will come away with a small edition of screenprints and can go on to print further designs and editions.

We are proud to be one of the best equipped open access print workshops in the UK, with excellent facilities for screenprinting, etching, relief printing, letterpress and lots more besides. Our workshop is big and spacious and in 2017 we bought our building allowing us to plan for even bigger and better resources.
