Description

Originally, as part of the GP Forward View there was a requirement to introduce 8am to 8pm GP access (seven days a week) with effect from 1st April 2019. There was funding attached to this, which was £3.34 in 2017/18 to utilize to develop systems, explore models etc., and £6 per patient per year with effect from 1st April 2019 to deliver the requirement of extended access. The 2018/19 NHS operational planning guidance that was released in February made a commitment that there would be access to GP services on an extended basis with effect from 1st October 2018, and that the £3.34 would be available for the delivery of the services we lost the seed funding

As you can imagine a great deal of thought and work is going into this at OHP central to allow us to deliver this by October. The CCG have sought our advice regarding delivery models and we have been able to influence their thinking. We feel are getting close to a practical solution that works for general practice in Birmingham and should be the start of a new infrastructure that much more could and will be built on in the future to enhance what we can deliver for our patients.

As part of this process we really want to know the views of you, the OHP partners, and get a view of what we have already in terms of premises, capacity and workforce. The vision of extended access should be supported by a detailed delivery model, which improves both patient outcomes and general practice sustainability. We would very much like to know your views and invite you to come along to an open consultation meeting we are having for OHP Partners to discuss extended access and obtain the views of our partners.

This gives us the time to hear your thoughts and views collectively about the models proposed to deliver extended access and propose timescales for weekends.
