About Extra-Medium
Extra-Medium is dedicated to works in progress and the processes behind them. It offers space to creatives across disciplines who are exploring their interior worlds and expressing them through diverse artistic practices.
The magazine aims to inspire readers to embrace their own forms of expression, beyond expected or imposed norms, and to find beauty in the messiness of the creative process. By featuring a wide range of practitioners from different walks of life, Extra-Medium creates a space where readers can see themselves reflected in the stories and practices of others.
Ramone "K" Anderson
Ramone "K" Anderson does not use jargon or art-speak to make his practice more palatable for the machine/industry. He doesn't desire his work to fall prey to the voracious consumption that black people often find themselves subject to for white/non black audiences. He says, 'there is a desire to illuminate the issues around equity of black cultural capital as it relates to having ownership of one's story , both individually and communally in the work, but man ain't gonna spoon feed you any more than that.' Go through the work and hit him up personally if you desire yo know more. All the mediums he uses are in the work's descriptions. All collaborators are credited. Do your googles, do your homework, and to quote the late Earl Simmons - 'get @ me darg.' @prophetneverlackin
Abbas Zahedi
Abbas Zahedi (b. 1984, London, UK) is an artist working at the intersections of sonic and sculptural forms, exploring systems of care, thresholds of experience, and the social architectures of our time. His practice has been described as a form of dissociative realism — moving between intimacy and estrangement, and attuned to forms of meaning that sit beyond the purely material.
A former medic with training in psychiatry, Zahedi holds an MA in Contemporary Photography and Philosophy from Central Saint Martins. Recent awards include the Stanley Picker Fellowship (2024), Artangel: Making Time (2023), Frieze Artist Award (2022), Paul Hamlyn Foundation Award (2021), and the Khadijah Saye Memorial Scholarship (2017). He is Associate Lecturer at the Royal College of Art, London, and has taught widely in the UK and internationally. @abbzah
James Jordan Johnson
James Jordan Johnson was born and lives in London and has recently graduated from the Royal College of Art. He is interested in the generative space of concealment and divergence through representation, culture making and the relativity of truth and imagination. He centres his thinking through how histories of Caribbean material culture forms illegible knowledge systems and uses pre-existing or self-established methods of opacity and slowness. @bluenotevessel
