Event description

Description

In this 10 week evening course, you will develop the skills required to draw in 2D and 3D, using the design program Rhino. This introductory course will provide a good foundation for working with CAD, from the basic logic behind the programme to exporting to an STL file for production. This course is ideal for those who are planning to use the facilities at Fab Lab Plymouth, to prototype a design idea, or to use on one of our specific Fab Lab courses such as Flat Pack Furniture design.

Please note, this is primarily a CAD drawing course. We will demonstrate how designs are sent to machines, and you will also develop a small scale personal project, using CAD, laser cutting, or scanning and 3D printing.

As part of this course you will create a folder of notes and screen shots for your information and reference.

Materials and Equipment

All laptops, software and materials are provided. No prior experience is required. Please bring a memory stick or hard drive formatted to PC (not mac), although you can choose to simply email your files to your own account. All Fablabs internationally use Rhino as the preferred CAD platform. This software works best on PC and therefore we will provide laptops for you to work on. We would prefer you to work with the equipment we provide in the Fab Lab.

Within the course fee you will be allocated a sheet of 3mm acrylic or 4mm laser plywood and enough PLA filament to make a small 3D print. We regret that due to timescales, we are unable to support large scale projects.

Please note that all courses are subject to student numbers and will only run if sufficient numbers are achieved. Plymouth College of Art reserves the right to cancel a course if insufficient student numbers are recruited.

This course will be delivered by Ian Hankey.
