Event description
Suffering in silence: How will Labour save older people’s social care? Join the Fabian Society and Anchor Hanover for this LPC fringe event.

About this Event

The effects of austerity and privatisation alongside a rapidly ageing population are now readily observable. Stories of older people failed by a broken system frequent the tabloid headlines and fuel the fear of old age, especially for those with less financial security or no support network.

How Labour might approach this care crisis, to rebuild a preventative, holistic, adequately funded and people centred older people’s care system, is high up on the policy agenda and for good reason.

This question is not only a priority because it prompts the protection of a large number of vulnerable people, but it also offers a means to harnessing a large proportion of the voting population in order to achieve a Labour government.

Confirm speakers include:

Barbara Keeley MP (shadow minister for mental health and social care)

Jane Ashcroft (Anchor Hanover)

Andrew Harrop (Fabian Society)
