Event description
Poverty and Social Security: How to defeat poverty across the generations . Join the Fabian Society, AgeUK and CPAG for this LPC19 event.

About this Event

The UK is scarred by poverty and our social security system is in crisis. At the start of the 2020s, 15 million people are on course to live in poverty. So where do we go from here? How can a future Labour government defeat poverty for people of all ages?

Fabian Society research is currently examining options for poverty and social security over the next 10 years. This project coincides with the Labour party’s 2019 review of social security which will be debated and adopted by conference in Brighton. The Fabian report will argue that we need a long-term plan for all age-groups that considers what we want to achieve in the coming years – and clear manifesto promises at the next election. The project draws together ideas generated by leading campaigners and researchers as well as the expertise of a diverse group of social security recipients.

Confirmed speakers include:

Margaret Greenwood MP (shadow secretary of state for work and pensions)

Angela Kitching (AgeUK)

Alison Garnham (CPAG)

Andrew Harrop (Fabian Society)
