FabLab Exeter free-standing 3D 2026 Workshop (6-15yrs)
Overview
Welcome!
Please do take a couple of minutes to read the details below as it explains what you can expect from our workshops.
Our workshops are based on a design and make principle. Participants will be guided through a design project and then we will make their design for them to have (sometimes in the session and sometimes after the session - see below).
Places are very limited so booking is essential. It will not be possible to turn up without a ticket. For this workshop, participants need to be aged 6 to 15yrs. Any children aged 6 or 7 years must have an adult stay in the workshop with them to help them with the designing process. Children aged 8yrs+ can stay without an adult and emergency contact details will be completed during the checkout process.
Please note that we need a minimum of four people to book for the workshop to go ahead. If less than 4 tickets are sold, we will contact you and refund your payment. Participants should be dropped off at the FabLab and collected at the end of the workshop unless you give permission for them to leaver at the end in the checkout process.
About this Workshop:
In our workshops, our Digital Making Tutor, Marcus Brown, will briefly run through how the process works and will give a short demonstration pointing out some of the key design techniques needed for the session. Following this, attendees get to create their own designs and Marcus will support any issues or help with more complicated requests.
In this workshop, your child will learn how to design in 3D a free-standing sign 2026. This will be 3D printed after the workshop in white material. This can be coloured with Sharpies or similar plus acrylics pens / paints.
This workshop includes:
One 3D print in white.
Design Making
As 3D printing takes a long time, it's not possible to take their designs home on the day. They will be printed after the workshop and we will email you to let you know when it's ready to collect. We aim to do this in under 2 weeks - often this is quicker.
A few things to note:
Additional Needs If your child has additional educational needs, please let us know on the checkout form. If your child would normally have adult support in school for their learning or adult support at home for their learning then an adult attending with them in the FabLab would be appropriate. We don't mind adults staying - we just can't seat an adult for every child due to the space available.
Refunds - our policy is no refunds. If you are unable to attend, please let us know as we are running a waiting list and, if we can resell your ticket, we will refund your ticket (but not the Eventbrite fee). If we cannot resell your ticket then no refund will be issued. If you are unable to attend then please notify us as soon as possible and then we can 'release your ticket'.
If we have to cancel a workshop for any reason, we will refund you your payment in full.
Late Arrival - It will not be possible to join the workshop if you arrive more than 15 minutes late. By this time, we are getting into the technical content of the workshop and it's not possible to go back over what we have already covered.
Mobile Phones - Mobile phones should not be used in the workshop. It is ok for participants to have a phone with them but they must not be used in the session. If you have any further questions - please do email us at:fablab@librariesunlimited.org.uk
Appropriate Design Content - In some recent workshops I have had to say no to some image content and some text content attendees have selected. I mention at the start of workshops that the content must be age appropriate and not offensive. If there are any issues with this I may phone an emergency contact to check if they are happy. All of our internet delivery in the library has a filter running to minimise inappropriate content.
Any questions? If so, please do email me and I will come back to you. I work part-time so it can take 2-3 days to receive a reply sometimes.
Many thanks,
Marcus Brown
