Event description

Description

A one-day conference to share the experiences and outcomes of a participatory action research project examining intercultural understanding on sexual health and gender relations among recently resettled refugees and asylum seekers in Norwich [for professionals in the refugee-support sector].

Delegates will have the opportunity to draw on their own experiences, identify challenges and examine the workshops guidance handbook, which was developed by a team from the NGO New Routes Integration and the University of East Anglia. This resource is based on a series of workshops designed and delivered by New Routes Integration with the Terrence Higgins Trust and a local Domestic Abuse Change Co-ordinator.

There will be workshop sessions to explore the impact of translation, language and terminology, how sensitive cultural and personal reflections and assumptions can be shared and debated, how knowledge (legal, cultural, religious) is differently valued and prioritised by diverse communities and how collaborative learning can be supported across multi-ethnic populations and grassroots organisations.

We look forward to sharing the research findings of this inter-cultural, exploratory programme.

Vegetarian lunch and tea and coffee included in ticket price.

We have a limited number of free tickets available for asylum seekers and refugees for whom the £10 ticket fee would preclude attendance. Please contact roshan@newroutes.org.uk, quoting 'Conference' if you would like a free ticket.
