Facilitation 101 Intensive

In-depth facilitation training to help you strengthen your practice and grow in confidence

Over three immersive days, the Facilitation 101 Intensive will help you build the knowledge, skills and confidence to design and deliver high-impact workshops, meetings and events.

This training is designed for people who want to take their facilitation practice to the next level, whether you’re leading internal meetings, running community engagement, delivering training, or guiding collaborative projects.

What’s included?

6 interactive learning modulesAcross the three days you’ll work through six modules that introduce and embed core facilitation skills, supported by live practice, group discussions and feedback.

Skills covered include:

  • Active listening and open questions – using questions to engage groups and create expansive conversations.
  • Designing for maximum participation – structuring sessions so everyone can contribute, and managing challenges like dominant voices, difficult room layouts or tech failures.
  • Reflecting and summarising – mirroring back what is happening and helping groups stay focused.
  • Opening up and generating ideas – practical techniques for helping groups explore options and new thinking.
  • Facilitating inclusive and accessible spaces – making sure activities work for everyone.
  • Facilitating learning and reflection – methods for helping groups embed insight and learning.
  • Supporting groups towards decisions – reaching consensus, identifying differences, and creating next steps.
  • Making things visible – visualising conversations, ideas and data to support understanding.
  • Navigating difficult dynamics – strategies for responding to challenges or tensions.
  • Facilitating emergence – what to do when plans need to change mid-session.

Who’s leading the training?

I’m Julia Slay, a freelance consultant and facilitator with over 15 years’ experience working as a coach, facilitator and trainer.

I have facilitated over a thousand workshops, ranging from away days and team development sessions to multi-day strategy retreats and international convenings.

I love what I do. I’ve learnt from some of the best facilitators around, and I maintain my own skills by regularly taking part in training to deepen my practice.

Before turning my hand to facilitation I worked in senior roles in the charity and government sectors, leading policy and research work.

See my LinkedIn profile for more info and follow me for facilitation tips, updates and reflections.
