'Facing the Storm 2 - Living in a Different Future' is the second part of a conference programme looking at how faith groups can survive in an age of 'polycrisis' where the future we face will be very different from the one we have previously experienced.
Our Keynote speaker is Dr Ruth Valerio, Environmentalist, theologian, social activist and author. She is currently Programmes, Partnerships and Advocacy Director for Embrace the Middle East. Her previous roles were Global Advocacy & Influencing Director at Tearfund and Churches and Theology Director for A Rocha UK, an organisation that works for the protection and restoration of the natural world. At A Rocha UK she spearheaded the Eco Church programme which equips churches to care for God’s world.
In addition to the keynote presentation we will also ...
- hear from a group of young people speaking about how they view their future
- engage in some practical workshops. There will be 2 workshop sessions so participants can choose two workshops from a choice of four subjects.
- Creating Community through Nature - joining with our local communities in activities through our shared love of nature and growing.
- Floods, Coasts and Communities - In this workshop we will explore ways in which churches can help build resilience and adaptability in local communities at risk of flooding and coastal hazards.
- Community Conversations - a Climate Cafe experience. In this workshop (max 10 participants) Rachael will model a safe space in which to share anxieties, fears, anger and hope, without the need to ‘solve’ anything or commit to action. You are not alone!
- Drama Workshop - There will also be a workshop to prepare a short drama for us to reflect on.
The day will begin and end with prayer and reflection.
