Event description

Description

"You cannot teach today the same way you did yesterday to prepare students for tomorrow."

Filling heads with facts is already pointless and will be even more so in 15, 20 years time. When they grow up our children will face problems never faced or identified before, they will need to invent new technologies and create new jobs. They will not be able or required to follow instructions and procedures, they will need to be inventors and independent thinkers.

We do not know this future world but we need to prepare our children for it. How? Our best bet is to try and imagine the attitudes, habits of mind, mind sets, competencies that will help our children lead meaningful lives.

The first workshop of this series is:

Understanding and Developing Competencies

We will be investigating collaboration, empathy, communication (including digital and social media as well as Marshall Rosenberg's Non Violent Communication), becoming experts/the acquisition of content, curiosity, wonder, critical thinking, creative innovation, confidence, grit, resilience and finally meaningful assessment.

Join us to explore why change must happen and what we can do about it.

"If we teach today's students as we taught yesterday's, we rob them of tomorrow."

During this workshop we will provide learning activities for children which match the content of the topic under discussion so please come as a family. Specific learning activities are aimed at 5 years and above but if you have children that are younger, they may like to join in too so feel free to bring them along.
