Based on feedback from our initial Factory of the Future event, the second event in the series will focus on how Automation and Big Data is transforming the manufacturing industry and how businesses can implement this technology.

Companies in Wales are already introducing Big Data and Automation into their workflows and seeing the benefits to their bottom line, with increased efficiency, product yield, and customer satisfaction.

This event will focus on how firms can get the most of Big Data and Automation in their manufacturing processes, featuring talks and seminars from leading industry experts.

The event will include a factory tour, of Newport Wafer Fab, and will also include a number of talks focusing on:-

- What is Big Data and Automation and how it is used within manufacturing?

- Real-life examples of how Big Data and Automation has been introduced into a manufacturing business and the impact that this has had.

There will also be an opportunity to meet and talk to experts, who will be on hand to share their knowledge, expertise, and experience.


Speakers include Dr Mike Lakoju, Research Associate in Data Science & Cyber Analytics at Chatty Factories, Paul Groves, Director at Pelican Healthcare and Emily Bristow, Customer Success Director at Blue Prism.

Speaker Bios

Emily Bristow, Customer Success Director, Blue Prism

Emily helps major global organisations deploy and scale their digital workforce using Blue Prism software. The aim? To help them remain competitive in the market. Prior to joining this world-leading robotic process automation vendor, Emily spent 9 years working for CGI. Based out of Bridgend, Emily was Head of Intelligent Automation, UK, automating CGI and customer processes. Emily is a history graduate, who loves technology and is keen to get more women into STEM careers.


Dr Mike Lakoju

Dr Mike Lakoju was an SAP consultant in the oil and gas sector for a number of years. He got his PhD research degree from Brunel University London, where he developed a Big Data Strategy framework that helps organizations identify the potential value of a Big Data project. He currently works as a researcher in Data Science and Cyber Analytics in Cardiff University School of Computer Science & Informatics. He is part of the Security, Privacy and Human Factors Research group.

His current research -"Chatty Factories" is a three-year project funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) through its programme for New Industrial Systems. The project explores the transformative potential of placing data driven systems at the core of manufacturing processes, with the aim of increasing competitive advantage for UK PLC by offering greater opportunities to innovate and reduce time to market. It maps directly onto the Government’s AI sector deal released in April 2018 which promotes academic-industry partnerships to deliver innovations arising from new uses of data and artificial intelligence.
