Description

This page is to register for the Science and Engineering Research Poster Day.

Please note: the event is open from 11am - 3pm to any visitors who would like to attend; booking is only required for students wishing to submit a poster. If you are not eligible to take part, but would like to attend the event to view the posters and meet current researchers, then no registration is required – please just turn up on the day, at any time between 11am and 3pm, and refreshments will be provided.

To be eligible to register you should be a postgraduate research student in your second year of study. However, if you are in your third year and missed the chance to take part in this last year, this is also open to you.

Registration through this page will reserve you a poster board to display your work and refreshments, including lunch on the day. There is however a limited number of spaces, so please ensure you reserve as soon as possible.

We are aiming to attract lots of visitors to quiz you about your work. Additionally, it is a good chance to meet and chat to other researchers, both staff and students, from the Faculty.

Suggestions to help you design your research poster are below:

Your poster should be printed on A0 paper in portrait, please.

Think about the audience; in this case, we are hoping to attract all members of the university, therefore there could be anyone from archaeologists to zoologists attending – it should be clear to a person not familiar with your line of research. Once you have an audience in mind, there are important questions that you need consider:

  • What are the key messages that you want to communicate in your poster?
  • How much text will you need to communicate these messages?
Beware of being too ambitious - it is easy to add too much to the poster!
  • Your poster will need to be visually attractive and should balance text with images. How will you illustrate your poster to ensure its visual impact?

You will also need to consider:

  • The format of the poster, whether you follow a more scientific style, or a dialogue style used in more Arts based disciplines.
  • Do you need an abstract?
  • Does your chosen artwork have Copyright restrictions?
  • Are there implications for your own Intellectual Property?
