Description

Not all failure is bad and something to be avoided. Some organisations such as Honda recognise this and harness failure as the ‘Secret of Success’. However failure, done well, and with purpose isn’t easy. This is especially true when risk registers and project management arrangements often push towards minimising risk and creating a culture of ‘failure is not an option’. But failure should be an option. Well managed failure that is appropriate to the context and has a focus on learning new things can deliver future success.

In this webinar Chris Bolton (Welsh Audit Office) will talk about his experiences, including examples of failure and engaging public services in a conversation about a different approach to failure. At the end of the webinar Chris will share some key lessons on how to develop a more effective approach to failure in organisations and how failure could actually contribute to your success.

Chris has written about failure for Academi, the Welsh Government Leadership Development Organisation which can be found here: Sowing Seeds – taking Risks, how to make it safe to fail https://academiwales.gov.wales/repository/resource/f00d38de-bac9-4e12-92db-632e8ca70b86/en and extensively in his blog: www.whatsthepont.com where this post explaining the James Reason Swiss Cheese Model of Failure is very popular https://whatsthepont.com/2018/05/30/the-james-reason-swiss-cheese-failure-model-in-300-seconds/
