Fair Focus: Recession resilience and partnership with your producers

Featuring an expert panel:

  • Ranjith Kumar Regional General Manager (South & Central Asia) for NAPP, the Asia Pacific Fairtrade Producer Network

What to expect:

Now more than ever, companies need to invest in fair prices, human rights and good working conditions in their supply chains. This is critical for building long-term resilience and being recognised as good global citizens. Brands and retailers have demonstrated that a strong sustainability strategy is a key driver for business success as more and more shoppers expect responsible business practices, even during a recession.

Retailers and brands with a high level of commitment to sustainability have been quick to recognise the challenges caused by COVID-19 and support the most vulnerable people in their value chains. At Fairtrade, we have seen that those supply chains which have benefited from sustainability investments in the past are now showing greater resilience in the face of the crisis. As we look to build back better, we know that 10 – 15 percent of the UK's food supply relies on farmers from developing countries so it is vital to work in partnership with these key workers to maintain stable supply chains and ensure shelves remain stocked.

Governments and consumers expect businesses to play their role in reducing poverty, addressing the climate crisis and contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals. So how do companies and organisations implement this practically? With a recession looming, what can businesses do to support the most vulnerable people in their supply chains? What do farmers and workers need and want from their downstream value chain partners?

We’ll be speaking to Dr Ioannou, an expert in sustainable business, and Ranjith Kumar, a producer representative from Fairtrade’s Asia Pacific network, to discuss how businesses can develop sustainable, long term partnerships with their producers, creating resilience for the whole supply chain, even in times of crisis.

This webinar will inspire business people to act in the long-term interests of their business’s supply chains, the farmers and workers they buy from, and the planet.
