Description

"Fair, Innovative and Transformative Work and Scotland's Digital Future"

FIT-work Project, Scottish Centre for Employment Research, University of Strathclyde

Securing and promoting Scotland's digital future as a source of innovative potential and productivity is a key priority for policymakers. A recent Scottish Futures Trust report estimated that increased digitalisation could boost the economy by up to £13 billion in the next 15 years. However, investment to achieve increased digitalisation will not pay off fully if we fail to design jobs and workplaces in a way that delivers 'fair work' and unleashes the innovative potential of employees. The Scottish Centre for Employment Research at the University of Strathclyde - in collaboration with the Scottish Government and other partners - is taking forward the 'Fair, Innovative and Transformative Work' (FIT-work) project. The FIT-work project is about working with employers and employees to identify opportunities and challenges around workplace innovation and better job quality. Can we collaborate on changing the workplace so that jobs are increasingly defined by fairness and dignity, and so that employees feel empowered to collaborate and innovate? This presentation will show how the FIT-work Team are using a range of research tools to help employers and employees to explore these issues. It will also discuss how Fair, Innovative and Transformative Work can add value to Scotland's efforts towards digital transformation.
