Is the event recorded?

Accepted Answer

Only for the personal use of the speaker, and for Birkbeck's students if they have been unable to attend. This is because audience discussion is an essential part of the event, and all content is the speaker's intellectual property.

I haven't used Microsoft Teams before. Help!

You need an internet connection. Click on the seminar link early to familiarise yourself with things. You don’t need the Teams App and can continue on your browser, so just click that button. You don’t need to adjust audio and video options so ignore thos

Can I join in the discussion?

Accepted Answer

Yes please. But we don't use the ‘Chat’ facility for discussion. Just put your hand up using the ‘Raise’ button at the top right of your screen. When the convenor calls on you to speak, turn on your microphone and (ideally) camera using the buttons there.

Can the talk be subtitled?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Once you’re ‘in the seminar room’ you’ll find this option under ‘….More’ at the top right of the screen. In the drop-down menu click ‘Language and Speech’, then click ‘Closed captions’.

With pleasure! For now, you can drop a line to l.jacobus@bbk.ac.uk. But we’re currently reorganising things so a better short-term option would be simply following us through Eventbrite (blue button on the event page) which will get you one months' notice of events.
