‘FALLING AWAKE’ retreat was carefully designed to provide a unique integration of methods that can support your movement toward an awakened mind, relaxed body and a more open-hearted life. This retreat will provide you with a fusion of ancient techniques with approaches based on most recent neuroscience. Our techniques are suitable for complete beginners and for those with well-established practice of mindfulness and Pilates or other forms of mindful movement.
Retreat is an opportunity to step out of the complexity of your life and embrace new tools that will enable you to live more mindfully, with greater ease and self-kindness. This retreat will combine the fertile atmosphere of Gozitan silence with time for meditation and walks in nature, supported by systematic instructions and Pilates sessions. Our aim is to support you in living with an alert yet calm mind and open heart through profoundly relaxing sound bath, structured activities with horses, exploring some of the most ancient locations on the island and optional Lomi Lomi massage.
Through different mindfulness and movement practices you will experience first-hand the impact that developing awareness can have on your mind and body. You will be introduced to a range of skills to help you be more embodied, calm and responsive and less controlled by worry or constant mental chatter. You will learn new tools to help you build your resilience to physical and emotional pain, whether expressed through anxiety, stress or depression.
Pilates is a body conditioning method based on the fusion of body and mind which results in improved posture, flexibility, strength and the transformation of the way a person's body feels, looks and performs. Pilates exercises will not only strengthen weak muscles, but will also elongate muscles that tend to be tight resulting in improved joint mobility, muscle elasticity and overall body balance. Through awareness and practice of centering, concentration, control, precision, breathing and flow, the Six Pilates Principles & Philosophical Foundations, you can experience a dramatic whole body transformation.
You will learn to:

- Be more embodied and connected to yourself and the world around you

- To be kind to yourself instead of wishing things were different all the time, or driving yourself to meet impossible goals
This retreat will take place in the middle of the Mediterranean sea on the island of Gozo in the village of Ghammar. Gozo, which means 'joy', is the second largest island of the Maltese Archipelago and is an ideal location for those who treasure a slow, relaxed rhythm of life and cherish being close to the sea. You are bound to enjoy the bright blue skies and crystal-clear sea, the unique coastal landscape and unspoilt countryside.
What are my transport options getting to the event?
Fly in to Malta International Airport (flights are between £85 and £130). There is a direct bus X1 (€2), coaches and taxis, that will take you from the airport directly to the Gozo Ferry Terminal. It takes 20 minutes to cross to Gozo. You only pay for the ferry when you leave the island (€4.50). Taxi to the farmhouse is around €17. We can also organise a transfer from the airport to the farmhouse.
What is accommodation like?
We will be staying in two traditional but modern Gozitan houses. The houses are of high standard and comfortable with a fully equipped kitchen, plenty of bathrooms and showers and outside swimming pools. Most bedrooms are twin and with en-suites and there are two bedrooms with double beds available for couples.There are also spacious living areas and public bathrooms on the ground floor. If you have any mobility problems and would like to reserve a ground floor bedroom please let us know at the point of booking.
What do I need to bring?
Bring own toiletries, beach towel and sunscreen. Although the weather is warm and mild in October in Malta, you can still get a tan!

Is my registration/ticket transferrable?
Yes. In the event you cannot attend you can transfer your ticket to a friend, family member etc.
Can I arrive a few days before the retreat?
There are plenty of things to do on the island. Some of our past retreatants were happy to arrive in Gozo a few days before the retreat or stay on afterwards. Gozo is known as a great destination for nature walks, hiking, snorkeling, diving and trips to the beach or cliffs. You can also visit one of its impressive churches, local markets, or wine farms. Accommodation prices in October tend to be much cheaper than during the high season.
When & Where
Luka is a BACP-registered psychotherapist, dialectical behaviour therapist and mindfulness teacher. He currently works part-time as a DBT therapist in the NHS and in private practice. He leads and co-facilitates DBT skills groups and gives individual therapy to adults diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder and showing traits of extreme emotional sensitivity. Alongside his therapeutic work Luka is a practitioner and teacher of mindfulness and he has conducted Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) courses for depression and taught mindfulness in corporate, health and community settings. Luka's passion for mindfulness comes from conviction that it has profound effects that can be demonstrated scientifically as well as from the changes he has experienced in his own lives as a result of regular practice.
