'False Faces, True Stories' with M.H and Ray Anyasi
Overview
False Faces, True Stories is a live literary performance and reading of excerpts from the forthcoming collaborative novel Two-Faced by Ray Anyasi and M.H., a Jewish American New York Times bestselling author. This is an event on identity and belonging and explores authorship, censorship, and the moral complexities of representation in a cultural moment increasingly defined by performative inclusion. Blending readings, conversation, and staged performance, the authors reflect on their shared experiences as outsiders and immigrants—one Nigerian, one Jewish American—navigating a creative landscape marked by rising hostility towards Jews and constrained expressions of solidarity. Through story and dialogue, they interrogate what it means to practice true allyship in the arts today and to write across borders, both literal and cultural.
M.H. is the New York Times, Publisher’s Weekly, and USA Today bestselling author of five novels, which have sold just under one million copies worldwide. Her books have been published in eighteen languages, and have been praised by the Los Angeles Times, TIME Magazine, and were most recently optioned for television.
