About this Event

This course is aimed at:

  • Local authority fostering services, including social workers, managers, members of fostering panels and decision-makers.
  • Children’s social workers who make placements with family and friends foster carers.
  • Everyone concerned with the assessment and temporary approval of connected people as foster carers under regulation 24.
  • Family and friends foster carers.
  • Local authority managers responsible for their family and friends care policy.

Learning outcomes:

  • Explore the particular challenges faced by family and friends foster carers, and consider their support needs.
  • Review their practice in the context of the legislative framework.
  • Understand how to use regulation 24 appropriately.
  • Become familiar with the requirements of a family and friends care policy.
  • Question a subject expert on specific issues which have arisen locally.
  • Prepare an action plan for any issues which need to be taken forward locally.
