Event description
Northern Roots is creating the UK’s largest urban farm and eco-park on 160-acres of beautiful green space and we’d love your help!

About this event

Looking for an opportunity to get the kids out in fresh air and active? Like to get them involved in volunteering and learning about the natural world? Want to enjoy volunteering as a family?

Northern Roots is running a small number of Family volunteering sessions this autumn.

What's on offer?

Tasks will vary each week but will include activities like litter picking and clearing vegetation. Tasks will be light, family friendly and involve no heavy lifting.

Whilst volunteering you’ll have the opportunity to find out more about the Northern Roots project and learn about the wonderful natural world of the Northern Roots site!

What do I need to know?

Volunteering sessions run between 10am and midday on Saturdays and are two hours in duration. Each session will start promptly at 10am. Places are limited to 10 places per session and are allocated on a first come, first served basis.

You must book your volunteering session via Eventbrite.

To ensure safeguarding, children and young people (5 to 17) booking on to the Family Environmental Volunteering sessions must be accompanied by an adult or guardian who has also booked a place.

Northern Roots will provide volunteers with hi viz, gloves and tools, but please come with appropriate footwear, weather-proof clothing and your own drink.

A portable toilet is available on the Northern Roots site. The nearest built toilet facilities are in neighbouring Alexandra Park. Volunteering activities will take place on the Northern Roots site in walkable distance to these facilities.

You’ll be volunteering with and directed by Northern Roots Landscape Manager Alan Price. You’ll receive a warm welcome, a quick Health & Safety briefing, including Covid-safety guidance, and get to work straight away.

The meeting point for Northern Roots Environmental Volunteering is in the car park at the juncture of Kings Road and Honeywell Lane. The best Sat Nav to use is OL8 2BH. Parking is limited but free.

If you’ve got any further questions, please drop us an email at northern.roots@oldham.gov.uk

We look forward to welcoming you.
