As part of Social Work Week 2024, Family Rights Group will be facilitating this online session that takes a closer look at the role and benefits of family group conferences (FGC) and Lifelong Links in the child welfare system.

Delivered by Sean Haresnape, family group conference and Lifelong Links practice lead and Jessica Johnston, legal adviser, we will look at:

The importance and role of genuine family led decision as central to child welfare practice.
The applicability of family group conferences to a wide range of decision making.
Exploring the differences between family group conferences and family strength-based meetings.
Where family group conferences fit within the legal framework of England and Wales – including how the legal framework is supportive of family group conference practice and how family group conferences enable children’s services to meet their legal duties.
The value of Lifelong Links in developing and sustaining a supportive network for young people in care and care leavers.
The wide ranging and long-standing evidence base for family group conferences.
