Family Lambing Experience
Date and time
These courses are provided by Derbyshire Adult Community Education Service.
About this event
Have you ever wondered what life is like at lambing time? Take a trip with Sally into the lambing shed to find out what happens. We can’t guarantee you will see lambs being born but you will meet some lambs.
Approximate course length:
2.5 hours
This course is for:
Children aged 4 to 14 who love animals (and their accompanying adults!).
You will learn:
• About life on a Derbyshire hill farm during lambing time
• About the ins and outs (literally) of lambing sheep
• What the important issues are during the lambing season, prior to it and following up, as the birth of the lamb is just the start!
• How the farmer deals with sheep with too many lambs for her to look after (adoption!)
• How to keep lambs and their mums happy and healthy
There will be plenty of time to ask questions and meet the sheep and lambs.
Work outside of sessions:
This is not required, though we hope it will inspire you to come on some of our other courses.
Additional costs and what to prepare:
This course is offered free of charge and there are no other costs.
Please wear warm clothes and boots or shoes that you don’t mind getting messy. You will be in a barn but it is at the top of a hill and March can be cold!
How to access your course:
An email with instructions for how to find the venue will be sent within 3 working days of the start date of the course.
Progression from this course:
You might want to come on another course with this tutor such as a ‘Dry Stone Walling Taster’ or another family learning course. Discuss your next steps with your tutor or your local centre staff
