Family Masterclass: building bridges (age 7–12)
Sun 9 July 2017, 10:30 – 12:30 BST
Become a civil engineer for the morning and build your own wooden bridge. This workshop with David Jazani will take you hands-on into all the processes of building a bridge: design, construction, and of course stress testing. Children will act as chief designer and the workforce (parents) will help producing the components and in the trickier parts of construction. Together, you will make sure that the design is structurally sound, that the workmanship is up to scratch, and of course you keep on top of quality control. Do you have what it takes to build the best bridge? Of course all participants are winners, but some are just a little better than others!
This workshop is aimed at 7-12 year olds with their families, but older students and adults are welcome. There must be at least one paying adult attending with each booking.
This Family Masterclass is based on our Engineering Masterclasses, and is an opportunity for children and adults to work together, taking a hands-on approach to exploring different topics. Royal Institution Masterclasses inspire young people to experience the creativity, practice and relevance of mathematics, allowing them to explore the diverse ideas and applications within this far-reaching subject.
