Family Masterclass: Get lucky? (age 7–12)
Sun 16 July 2017, 10:30 – 12:30 BST
At least 15 million tickets are sold every week in the National Lottery Lotto draw, but is it worth buying a ticket? In this workshop we ask the questions: what does mathematics say about the lottery? Is it worth playing? Can we increase our chances of getting lucky? Zoe Griffiths will help participants answer these questions by exploring the mathematics of combinations, Pascal’s Triangle and probability in an interactive and fun way.
This workshop is aimed at 7-12 year olds with their families, but older students and adults are welcome. There must be at least one paying adult attending with each booking.
This Family Masterclass is based on our Engineering Masterclasses, and is an opportunity for children and adults to work together, taking a hands-on approach to exploring different topics. Royal Institution Masterclasses inspire young people to experience the creativity, practice and relevance of mathematics, allowing them to explore the diverse ideas and applications within this far-reaching subject.
Discounted tickets are available to Members of the Ri. Find out more about how to join our community.
