About this event

This online workshop (conducted via Zoom) is for families in Richmond who have children with additional needs and disabilities. Dr O'Hara will provide some useful strategies to help you manage your child's anger and challenging behaviour. The workshop will cover:

  • What underlines anger
  • How to validate feelings but not behaviour
  • Naming anger with your child
  • Identifying triggers
  • Tools to manage anger
  • Consequences and safety issues

There will also be an opportunity to ask questions at the end of the session.

Dr. O’Hara worked for ten years as a New York City high school history teacher and has since continued to seek out opportunities to work with young people and their families. Additionally, as a faculty psychologist she worked with children and families as the Psychology Externship Director at Montefiore Medical Center Child Annex. She has been treating both children and adults in private practice for the last 10 years.

The Ruils Family Matters service offers 1:1 support for parents and carers of children with extra needs. We can work with you to focus on areas of family life that are causing concern and identify steps to address them. We can provide information, support and advocacy services. If we can’t find an answer, we will find someone who can.
