Family Rock Pooling & Push Netting: Dale beach

By Darwin Centre

Overview

Join the Darwin Centre for an afternoon exploring the shallows and the rocky shore of Dale beach.

Join us for a free family event on Dale Beach! We’ll begin by using our push nets to explore the shallow waters, searching for shrimp, crabs, juvenile flatfish, and other fascinating marine life. After that, we’ll head to the rocky shore, where we’ll turn over rocks, look beneath seaweed, and search in nooks and crannies for creatures ranging from shannies to sea squirts.

At the end of the session, we’ll gather in a big circle, and the Darwin team will talk you through the day’s discoveries, with plenty of time for questions and a chance to practice your crab-handling skills.

Important information:

  • Each person attending will need their own ticket.
  • Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times and remain the responsibility of their parent or caregiver.
  • Please dress appropriately for the weather and wear sturdy footwear that can get wet (old trainers, wellies, wetsuit boots, or beach shoes). No flip-flops, crocs, or sliders.
  • You may also want to bring a towel and a change of clothes.

Facilities & meeting point:
Dale has a pay-and-display car park, toilets, a café, yacht club, and pub. We’ll meet on the beach—on the left-hand side as you face the sea—ready for a 12:45 pm start.

If you can no longer attend, please cancel your tickets to free them up for others, or email us at darwin@darwincentre.com and we’ll be happy to help.
